Whatever the circumstances, our time of life, relationship, age or connection, confronting the death of a loved one is never an easy time.
As a Celebrant it is a humbling experience when invited into the homes of families, and dear friends and loved ones - to talk with you about the funeral you are faced with planning for the one you have all recently lost.
Life is precious and so too will be that time together during the service - to recollect, remember, to celebrate where appropriate, to pay tribute and to say thank you - sharing memories and fond moments that re-tell the years, achievements, qualities and precious life moments of the one whose journey has come to an end.
As your Celebrant - it is my role and honor to help you make sure everything about the service, before and during - will enables all to express what is truly in your hearts and minds, and make sure everything goes smoothly on the day.
Sharing a conversation...planning the service
Our meeting together, maybe for an hour of so, is held a few days prior to the service, sometimes longer if needed. It can be at your's or the family home, the funeral home or another suitable place.
Whatever will be most convenient and appropriate to the circumstances for all involved - and sometimes, when some are far away, a telephone conversation, even Skype or WhatsApp might be more practical, as well as communication by email, text and Dropbox for any documents which need to be shared.
To plan the service, whether it will be a funeral or memorial, large or small and intimate - in a chapel or at the graveside, which is just right for the one you have just lost.
In our pre-service meeting, my task is to guide you through each step. To make sure everyone's needs are heard - so the service truly acknowledge the wishes of the one you've lost - reflect the person you are remembering and farewelling - and importantly is an occasion - both reverent and warm hearted - from which all will leave, though with sadness - but also with a sense of being deeply moved to have been there to say goodbye with you.
